Western Texas Lions Eye Bank Alliance
The Western Texas Lions Eye Bank Alliance mission is the restoration of sight through the promotion and advancement of eye banking. Established in 1971 by Districts 2A-1 & 2T-3 of Texas, the West Texas Lions Eye Bank is one of six eye banks in Texas. The Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA) is the association of transplantation organizations in the United States.
Eye Banks have lead the transplantation field with the establishment of medical standards for the procurement and distribution of corneal tissue, accreditation of eye banks, and comprehensive education programs for doctors, technicians and administrators.
Medical Standards
The Western Texas Lions Eye Bank strives to ensure the superior quality of human eye tissue provided for transplantation. Following guidelines established by the EBAA Medical Advisory Board our staff maintains the highest proficiency in eye tissue procurement, preservation, storage and transplantation.
EBAA Medical Standards are endorsed by the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and are reviewed semi-annually.
